A motor vehicle service contract company agrees to provide repair, replacement, or expense reimbursements when a motor vehicle has an operational or structure failure due to a defect in materials, skill of work, or normal wear and tear.
The motor vehicle service contract company that issues the motor vehicle service contract and is obligated to arrange for the performance of services must be licensed with the Iowa Insurance Division. To become licensed, email the Service Company License Report form to service.companies@iid.iowa.gov. An email will be sent with a PIN letter and instructions to complete the licensing process. To renew your license, complete the Service Company License Report form and follow the Filing Instructions.
These business entities must comply with the requirements in Iowa Code chapter 523C and Iowa Administrative Code chapter 191-103.
A list of motor vehicle service contract companies that are licensed with the Iowa Insurance Division can be found here or in the data set below.
The motor vehicle service contract company’s sales agents, most commonly auto-dealerships and financial institutions, have provided information annually in a notice filing as a motor vehicle service contract provider. This requirement was removed by Senate File 619 in 2019.
