Enrollment in child-only health policies will soon again be conditional, depending on health of child

(DES MOINES) July 31, 2012 – A special enrollment period, created to allow acceptance of applications for “child-only” health insurance policies for children, even those with health conditions, will soon end. “Child-only” policies are individual health insurance policies that provide coverage only to persons under the age of nineteen.

During the special open enrollment period of July 1 through August 14, a child can be accepted for enrollment in a health insurance plan in spite of having health problems.  That time is nearly at an end.  After the open enrollment and until the open enrollment that will again be held next year, insurers can make an enrollment conditional on the child’s health.

Parents who have been considering taking advantage of this special opportunity for enrolling their child or children are encouraged to immediately contact health insurance companies or insurance agents to accomplish the enrollment while it is still available.
