The Iowa Insurance Division is responsible for issuing licenses or authority for many types of regulated individuals dealing with insurance related products.  See the information below on how to reinstate a license or authority.

Insurance Producers

Iowa Insurance Division administrative rules regarding the licensure of insurance producers can be found in Iowa Administrative Code chapter 10.

Reinstatement and Reissuance of an Expired License

A formerly licensed resident and non-resident insurance producer may reinstate an expired license up to 12 months after the license expiration date.  A resident insurance producer must prove that during the continuing education term the associated continuing education requirements were met prior to expiration.  If continuing education requirements were not met prior to expiration, contact the Iowa Insurance Division for procedure to become compliant for reinstatement.  Once the Iowa Insurance Division shows continuing education compliance, the insurance producer must complete the renewal application through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) online systempay a license reinstatement fee, and a license renewal fee.  A formerly licensed insurance producer that fails to apply for a reinstatement within 12 months of license expiration must apply for a new license.

Reinstatement and Reissuance After Disciplinary Action

An insurance producer whose license has been suspended, revoked or forfeited in connection with a disciplinary action may apply for reinstatement or reissuance in accordance with Iowa Administrative Code chapter 10 and the terms of any applicable licensing order.  

An insurance producer must complete this form and also submit an application as explained below through NIPR.

Public Adjusters

All formerly licensed resident and non-resident public adjusters may reinstate an expired license up to 12 months after the license expiration date.  Resident public adjusters must prove that during the continuing education term the associated continuing education requirements were met prior to expiration.  If continuing education requirements were not met prior to expiration, contact the Iowa Insurance Division for procedure to become compliant for reinstatement.  Once the Iowa Insurance Division shows continuing education compliance, the public adjuster must complete the renewal application through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) online systempay a license reinstatement fee, and a license renewal fee.  A formerly licensed public adjuster that fails to apply for a reinstatement within 12 months of license expiration must apply for a new license. During the application process through the NIPR online system, you will also need to submit current evidence of financial responsibility.

Navigators

All formerly licensed navigators may reinstate an expired license up to 12 months after the license expiration date.  Navigators must prove that during the continuing education term the associated continuing education requirements were met prior to expiration.  If continuing education requirements were not met prior to expiration, contact the Iowa Insurance Division for procedure to become compliant for reinstatement.  Once the Iowa Insurance Division shows continuing education compliance, the navigator must complete the reinstatement application, and by paying a reinstatement fee and renewal fee.  A formerly licensed Iowa navigator that fails to apply for a reinstatement within 12 months of license expiration must apply for a new license.  All active Iowa navigators must be currently affiliated with a navigator entity holding a current federal navigator grant.

Viatical Settlement Brokers

A former viatical settlement broker shall be permitted to reinstate their authority within 12 months of its expiration in order to continue to operate as a viatical settlement broker in Iowa as long as either of the following apply.

  1. If the insurance producer’s life line of authority is reinstated and all other requirements for the authority to be a viatical settlement broker in Iowa are fulfilled.
  2. The viatical settlement broker completes the Viatical Settlement Broker License Application.
