Des Moines, Iowa – Joseph Dean Hansel, age 24, of Edgewood, Iowa, has been charged with two counts of Insurance Fraud - Presenting False Information (Class D Felony) and one count of Insurance Fraud – Application Submission (Class D Felony) following an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau.

The charges against Hansel stem from an investigation which began in December of 2020. According to criminal complaints filed by the Iowa Insurance Division's Fraud Bureau, in November of 2020 Hansel provided false information to an insurance company in order to obtain automobile insurance coverage. In November of 2020, Hansel’s vehicle was involved in a collision in Edgewood. During the claim process, Hansel provided false information to his insurance company related to when the collision had occurred, and who was operating the vehicle at the time of collision, in order to obtain insurance benefits to which he would not have otherwise been entitled. 

On April 16, 2021, Hansel was issued a summons to appear in the Iowa District Court for Clayton County with trial to be set for a future date. No additional details will be provided at this time.
