Des Moines, Iowa - Tonya Weber, age 35, of Marshalltown, pled guilty on December 5, 2024, to one count of Presenting False Information, a class “D” Felony, following an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau.
The investigation began in April 2024, following the receipt of information by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau suggesting that Weber had submitted false information to an insurer.
The investigation found that Weber knowingly misrepresented material facts to receive insurance benefits to which she was not entitled. Weber reported an injury from a fall in the shower of a hotel room at the Meskwaki Bingo and Casino Hotel in February 2024. An insurance claim was submitted to the hotel’s insurance company and photos of her injuries were requested. Weber fraudulently provided an image of a bruised limb that was later discovered to have been downloaded from the internet. Weber was arrested on June 27, 2024.
Following her guilty plea, Weber received a five year suspended prison sentence and placed on supervised probation for a period of five years. Weber was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,025 and restitution in the amount of $ 1,152.
