Step 1: Submit a Request
In instances where the appraisers involved in an appraisal process cannot agree on an umpire, either appraiser may initiate a request for an umpire, by using the online request form on the Iowa Insurance Division (IID) website.
Please ensure you have the following information before submitting the request.
Names and contact information for all appraisers involved in the claim
Names of all public adjusters and/or consumer attorneys involved in claim (if applicable)
Name of the insurance carrier, name(s) of the insured(s), policy number, claim number
Name of the insurance carrier staff adjuster, contact number, email address
Step 2: Iowa Insurance Division (IID) Review of Request and Randomized Umpire Selection
Once the request is received, IID reviews the submission for completeness and validity. If any required information is missing, IID will notify the requestor to provide the missing details.
If the request is complete, IID will use a randomized selection system to select an Iowa licensed umpire.
Step 3: Notification of Umpire Selection
IID will send an email notification to all applicable parties for the purpose of proceeding with the appraisal process pursuant to 522F.
