Annual Calendar Dates for Reporting, Tax Payments, and Fees:
- On or before March 1: Premium tax payments for the immediately preceding calendar year, including both direct premium and assumed premium, are due.
- On or before March 1: A dormant captive company’s tax of $1,000 is due and the dormancy captive shall pay no renewal fees or premium tax payments.
- On or before March 1: Captive risk retention group insurers shall file a statement of actuarial opinion.
- On or before March 15: Captive risk retention group insurers shall file an actuarial opinion summary.
- On or before April 1: Annual registration fee payment of $300 are due.
- Prior to April 1: Fiscal year-end reporting captives must submit a report covering the immediately preceding calendar year to provide sufficient information to support its premium tax return.
- On or before April 1: Captives are required to file an annual report of their financial condition as of December 31 of the preceding year, unless prior approval has been received to file the form on a fiscal year-end basis. All captives, other than a risk retention group and special purpose captive company, are required to use The Iowa Captive Company Annual Statement Form while captive risk retention group insurers and special purpose captives shall use the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Annual and Quarterly Statements forms.
- On or before June 1: An annual audit from an independent certified public accountant shall be filed.
- On or before June 1: Captive risk retention group insurers shall file their reinsurer’s audited financial statements.
- On or before June 30: All captives, other than a risk retention group, shall file an annual statement of actuarial opinion for the year ending December 31 immediately preceding, unless prior approval has been received to file the statement on a fiscal year-end basis.
