Des Moines, Iowa – Gabriel Cullom, age 44, of Des Moines, pled guilty on December 12, 2019, to two counts of Fraudulent Practices in the 4th degree and one count of theft in the 4th degree.  Cullom received a total of $945 in fines, a deferred judgment, and two years probation following an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau.

The investigation into Cullom’s actions began in April of 2019. During the investigation, it was discovered that Cullom provided false information to his insurance carriers regarding the use of his vehicles in order to obtain a lower insurance rate.

“Iowa law requires commercial vehicles used to transport passengers to have greater liability insurance coverage to protect the public and passengers.  Providing false information regarding the intended use of a vehicle puts Iowans utilizing those services at risk,” Deputy Insurance Commissioner Jared Kirby said.  “I appreciate the hard work of our Fraud Bureau and all who participated in the prosecution of this case so Mr. Cullom was held accountable for his actions.”
