Des Moines β The Iowa Insurance Division yesterday ordered Darron W. Dean of Potosi, Wisconsin, to cease and desist doing insurance business in Iowa. Dean is also ordered to pay $2,000 in civil penalties and $916.50 in costs of the investigation and prosecution.
Dean, the owner of First Priority Bail Bonds, Inc., does not have an insurance license and was found to have failed to disclose past criminal convictions on his application for licensure, had been doing insurance business without appropriate licensing and authorization, and improperly withheld premium from an Iowa consumer.
βIowans deserve to get what they pay for. Mr. Dean, using fraudulent and dishonest practices, misled the Iowa Insurance Division and consumers in violation of law and caused substantial harm to a consumer,β Chance McElhaney, Iowa Insurance Division Communications Director said. βWe encourage Iowans to always double-check with us to make sure the person they are working with is properly licensed.β
Dean previously pled guilty on August 9, 2019 to the criminal charge of Theft in the 3rd degree and as a result was ordered to pay $1,350 in restitution and a $625 fine.
Iowans can double-check to ensure the person they are looking to purchase an insurance product from is properly licensed by contacting the Iowa Insurance Division.
